Renewable energy production in OECD countries
There are no major economic or technical barriers to achieving 100 per cent renewable energy around the world by 2050
I've scoured hundreds of pages of OECD's annual report for data, converting PDF tables into machine readable format to build this interactive data visualisation.
The presentation includes a custom world map, where all non-OECD countries are dissolved into a single multipolygon highlighting only the relevant economies. The base data came from Natural Earth and I used QGIS to dissolve and to convert the shapes to geoJSON. I chose leaflet.js for the presentation as it allows me to display geographic data without a base layer.
The map is accompanied by a series of charts. A standard bar chart depicting OECD countries' performance in 2014 as a snapshot, while the line chart provides insight into the longer term trend since 1960.
Due to the complexity of the charted information, mobile devices are presented with a sortable, tabular view of the core dataset.
